Barcelona Fashion Week Cutting-Edge, Internation

Barcelona 080 fashion week is a bit of an oddity among the European fashion fests. The city has a long tradition of style—it’s famous for espadrilles, which even the Barcelona police used to wear—but classic looks aren’t part of the runway offerings here. The 13 Catalan designers who showed over the past three days each took different directions, but all bypassed the traditional suiting and classic womenswear. For its Spring ‘11 session, 080 Barcelona awarded €10,000 prizes to two local talents: Manuel Bolaño’s women’s collection, A Little About Me (pictured), was, he says, “inspired by my grandmother at her house in a country town.” Judging by the billowy jumpsuits, crochet lace body stockings, and layered skirts in rubber or metallic brocade, Gran was one very forward-thinking woman. In menswear, Catalonia’s rising star, Juan Antonio Ávalos, showed a collection called Tropical Knight, full of vivid color combinations such as red and pink. He managed to juxtapose medieval elements like coats of arms with seventies Cali surf-and-skate styles.

In addition to local talent, 080 Barcelona invited five rising stars from across the world to show here this season: India’s Manish Arora, Greece’s Yiorgos Eleftheriades, and three designers from South Korea: Juun.J, Songzio, and Lee Jean Youn, who won last year’s Mango Fashion Awards. “I’ve got two days here after this show, and that’s my summer vacation,” said Juun.J, who titled his Spring menswear collection “Flap” because the airy pieces make him think of birds’ wings. Eleftheriades took the occasion to show his draped women’s looks alongside a selection of his new menswear. And Arora managed to party till dawn every night and still wow the crowd with his Art Deco kaleidoscope pieces dripping with Indian beading and embroidery.

Bristol Palin’s Biggest DWTS Fear Mo - Calvin Kl

“I just wanted to do it because it’s so fun,” she told UsMagazine.com at a DWTS press conference Monday night. “It’s positive and it’s a good competition. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and have a good time.”

PHOTOS: DWTS makeovers

She told Us she was most psyched to meet Florence Henderson, whom she called “an icon.”

Why did Bristol Palin decide to sign on for next season’s Dancing With the Stars?

Bristol said her biggest personal challenge will be “just showing my personality and moving my hips!”

Added Bristol, “The pro athletes are pretty cool too.”

“They both have some dance experience,” she said. “But everyone’s so good and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”

Her mom, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin,Calvin Klein, was supportive as well.

Who is she most worried about on the dance floor? Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey and singer Brandy!

As for those DWTS costumes, Bristol told Us, “We did our title shoot today, so I got all glammed up and stuff, but I’m definitely excited to wear all those. I know that mine will be the most conservative — I will be the most dressed. That’s how I am and that’s how I want to dress. But it’ll be good, all the rhinestones and spray tans, that will be fun.”

But she won’t baby-sit grandson Tripp, 19 months, while Bristol is rehearsing. Said Bristol, “She’ll be traveling the world doing speeches and stuff.”

“She’s always been my No. 1 fan,” said Bristol, 19, who will dance with two-time champ Mark Ballas. “Of course, she’ll be down here [cheering me on].”

All The Hiss, None Of The Boo

Taking in the various Resort shows, I noticed a trend I’ve been seeing more and more of over the past few months: python. But not the real stuff—there was that, too, of course, but I’m talking python prints, which give the luxe look at cut cost (though in the case of Lanvin et al., that’s all relative, of course). Those prints even let Stella McCartney, fashion’s loudest animal activist, get in on the style without skinning a soul. The print seems to have a particular hold on summer dressing: Both Michael Kors and Lanvin offered python swimwear, and Alber Elbaz even created an entire ensemble to go with it—a long dress that’d be a perfect cover-up, plus a matching nylon bag and carry-on. Click here for our roundup of serpentine chic, from Stella’s day dresses to Tumi’s wheeled luggage.

Arcade Fire Turns Your Childhood Home - True Relig

There’s no place like home — or your home, rather — for Arcade Fire. The chart topping, Montreal-based alt-rock collective, whose third studio disc, The Suburbs,True Religion, entered the Billboard Top 200 albums chart at No. 1, just released an ultra inventive viral video for the album’s single, “We Used To Wait” using Google satellite technology.

Exploring the disc’s overall thesis of uncovering deeper meaning in suburban upbringings, the online art piece allows visitors to enter in the address of their own childhood home — and then watch the story unfold alongside the poignant track.

And if you’re not checking into therapy afterwards, read more about Arcade Fire at arcadefire.com.

It’s a must see — but watch out for the birds. You’ve been warned! “We Used To Wait” is live now at http://thewildernessdowntown.com.

Levi Johnston I Regret Apologizing to Sarah - Adi

“‘Cause it kind of makes me sound like a liar. And I’ve never lied about anything. So that’s probably the only thing. The rest of the stuff I can live with.”

PHOTOS: Levi and other stars who had terrible summers

So why did he apologize to Sarah in the first place? “That was something I did to make my fiancée happy,” he said. (Johnston and the former Vice Presidential candidate famously traded insults via the press following his early 2009 breakup with Brisol.)

Nope. For Johnston, his biggest and only regret is a public apology he made to his famous would-be mother-in-law, Sarah Palin.

VIDEO: The couple in happier times

If Levi Johnston could take back anything, it would be… posing for Playgirl? His on-off, on-off relationship and engagement to Bristol Palin, mother of his son Tripp, 20 months?

“I don’t really regret anything,Adidas,” Johnston, 20, says in a CBS Early Show interview broadcast Friday morning. “But the only thing I wish I wouldn’t have done is to put out that apology [to Palin and the Palin family].”

Johnston — he and Bristol, 19, called off their second engagement last month — recently signed on for a reality show and is running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

Will he be a better leader than Sarah, Alaska’s former governor? “Let’s hope so,” he says during the interview. “I can’t guarantee or promise you anything but I’m gonna try… That’s the goal.”

[Shopping] Get Inspired Soviet Spies

The Cold War might be over, but Russian spies are pretty hot right now. The FBI rounded up a ring of 11 Russian spies living undercover in New York City this past week. The alleged spies used tactics straight out of a thriller–code words, switching bags, burying money, and using invisible ink. And there’s no denying Anna Chapman is one foxy spy.

While the charges are serious, the theatricality of it all got us daydreaming. We even watched Gorky Park twice this week and swooned over Joanna Pacula’s style and beauty.

Check out our favorite Russian spy-inspired looks.
